The EuroMillions Superdraw is this year’s most eagerly anticipated lotto draw for EuroLotto players and Europe’s favourite lottery is set to celebrate its upcoming rule changes with a massive €130 million Superdraw jackpot. The 2016 Superdraw will take place on Friday September 30th boasting a massive jackpot of €130 million. This draw will coincide with the new rule changes which will come into effect on Tuesday 27th September. Read more about the rule changes here.
In countdown to this very rare and popular event, we take a look at the best EuroMillions Superdraw winners’ stories, kicking off with:
2008 – Ianthe Fullagar
18 years old, gap year student, Ianthe Fullagar is still considered among the biggest winners of the EuroMillions Superdraw. On the of 26 September 2008, Fullagar became the youngest jackpot winner of all time and, in true college fashion, celebrated her win with baked beans on toast and a can of apple cider… Take it easy Fullagar!
After realising that she had won the big prize, Ianthe was so concerned about losing her lucky ticket that she hid it in her bra until she could claim her winnings. She became the 27th richest young person in the United Kingdom with her £7,000,000 (€8 million) prize and against popular belief that young people squander their monies away, she has apparently gone on to become a lawyer since then and invested her money wisely. Hats off to her. Bravo.

2009 -French Village of Venelles
Venelles, Marseilles, the 6th of March 2009. A quaint French village that came to life when 15 lucky residents shared a EuroMillions Superdraw jackpot of £83,000,000 (approx. €95,747,000). The small town of just eight thousand inhabitants was thrown into mayhem and became swarmed by the press after a group of friends managed to guess the Superdraw winning combination.
The lucky winners all managed to keep their identities hidden with the support of mayor Jean-Pierre Saez, who knew the group of friends individually, only commenting that they were “people who get up early and work hard.”. Good for them.
2011- Angela and Dave Dawes
In October 2011, Angela and Dave Dawes scooped up £101 million (approx. €116.6 million) EuroMillions Superdraw prize, and proceeded to Infamously draw up a list of 20 people with whom they’d share a portion of their winnings with. This resulted in a real-life drama. and as expected – the tabloids had a field day.

2013 – Andrew Louden
Scottish man, Andrew Louden became famous for not winning the EuroMIllions Superdraw. Yep, that’s right! Louden got asked a friend of his to post a message on his Facebook profile wall congratulating him on his EuroMillions Superdraw big win, as a gag. But soon after, he was bombarded with friend requests, and even one from his ex-girlfriend! Eventually the press picked up on the story. Andrew would later tell the press that the whole things was “was simply a joke which got out of hand.” Well at least now you know who your real friends are, mate.
2014 – Anonymous winner from Portugal
In 2014, a single, anonymous ticket from Portugal won the full jackpot after the maximum cap of €190 million was reached.
This became the second time that the maximum EuroMillions Superdraw amount had been won. Adrian and Gillian Bayford marked the first winners to do so back in 2012. Unlike in the United Kingdom however, where lottery winnings are not taxable, the winner had to pay a large chunk of his winnings in tax to the Portuguese government.
